Topic of the day:
IS MONEY MORE IMPORTANT THAN FRIENDSHIP?
This year has been particularly tough...
It's not the workload but the nonsense that distracts me from focusing on my work...
I singled out the above topic because it is the most prominent issue that was brought up recently and is, in fact, still an issue to be solved..
The main problem is actually very simple...
It all happens because there are a few individuals who do not want to pay what they don't use..
As simple as that..
but what I don't agree with is to sacrifice friendship for the sake of petty money..
Here's how it started...
I am living in a 5 bedrooms house..
and knowing UK is cold starting autumn..we decided to start increasing the timing for the heating..
It was all peaceful until recently when we discovered that we have used 2000 units from November till now (February)..
To be honest, it is indeed an insane amount..
but since I believe we are responsible individuals and do not turn on the heater as much as he likes, I think there's nothing we can do but to accept that fact and start to conserve as much as we can..
but there is one more thing..
this year's winter has been particularly cold...
If you've read the news, you would notice how heavy snow has struck London and nearby area..
Subzero temperature is common now and I would say it's actually reasonable to increase the heating time during this period..
Think about this, what's the point of staying in a freezing cold house?
I believe everyone wants to stay in a house where they can enjoy..
A house they can call "Home Sweet Home"
Ok, so what is the relation to friendship?
One of my housemates brought a guest to my house recently and because the house was freezing cold when she arrived, my friend, trying to be a good host, requested to turn on the heater..
but it was met with discontentment by my other housemate who was there..
and he then went on to say how we should make him pay more and bla bla bla..
seriously..
you have a guest in your house and you want the host to pay more because of that??
Sometimes I wonder if I'm staying in a house or a hostel?
I have to freaking report every time my friend wants to visit me..
and now, I have to pay more because I have a friend visiting me??
Maybe I am naive..but would that not give an impression that my house doesn't actually welcome a guest???
When I told him that this would strain our friendship, he said we have nothing to lose...
I was totally speechless...
For the sake of petty money, we are willing to sacrifice a friend...
seriously, how low can human go?
I dun blame anyone for being stingy..but isn't this a little too far?
The house is freezing anyway...so might as well we turn on the heater rather than all of us hiding under our blanket and could not do what we want to do..
The above case has been actually edited due to it being a sensitive issue but the main point is still the same, host made to pay more because friend comes to stay..
I would like to know readers' comments or opinions on this matter. Cheers..
